ROUND 3
INDIANA CROSS COUNTY RACING
5-18-2008
DEMAREE FARMS
CROSS PLAINS, IN

You know its on a farm is we have this kind of spectators!
Clear skies and perfect weather was the scene for Round Three of the IXCR Series hosted by the Demaree Family in Cross Plains, In. With rain showers during the week and strong winds the day before race day, left us with great track conditions with a nice mix of dust and mud. Cross Plains is located in southern Indiana in Ripley County. It is known for it Tobacco fields and Deer Hunting. But as of May 18th, 2008 it is now known for a great place to hold a Cross Country race. The track was 7 miles long with several long open field sections where you could max out your machine! With speeds hitting the 70MPH mark fast laps were sure to be had by everyone. However the IXCR crew would not let the racers run at top speed the entire race. Several obstacles were thrown at the riders including a chicken house that the bikers rode right thru the middle of, and a few jumps where you could take in a deep breath of the clean country air! Mud was found in several areas of the track as the course ran across one creek, thru another creek, and right down the middle of a small stream! That water was then carried right up on the hill climbs and made for a great place to pass and see some action. With close to 300 riders, Demaree Farms turned out to be a great success.

Racers couldn't miss some of the water crossings!
Our bike race saw Jeff Cregg run 8 laps on his Suzuki to take the win in the Pro class with John Robbins only a minute and four seconds behind him. Robert Wilkerson won the A class and Jordan Johns did the same in the A-Lites class. Jeff Ramsey came up from the Bluegrass state and beat everyone in the B Class. In the C Lites class Jesse Ford took a W and is looking for a championship this year. Zach Halcomb, of Versailles, was the winner of the C Class. Joe Stanley now holds the points lead in the Vet 30+A class and took his second win of the year at the Farm. Vet 30+B was won by David Dunnuck and Sr 40+A saw another Suzuki take a win by Robert Kirchner followed by Joe Halcomb. Kevin Kruer and Marvin Popp did work in the Sr 40+B and Super Senior 50+ Classes by overcoming their competitors and collecting 30 more points each. If you follow the GNCC’s you might be familiar with five time GNCC Champ Scott Summers. Scott was present for this race and we hope he enjoyed himself and we will look for him again later this year!

Racers were faced with some tough areas on the course.
Our fearless four wheeled racers took to the course setting a blistering pace and Factory Yamaha backed Donald Ockerman took the overall with Craig Bowman in tow. Jonathan Fugate had an impressive ride wining the A Class and Moto-Xperts rider Wesley Fruits was second. Local rider Fred Marley put his S.I.C.C. Racing Honda in the front of the B 16-25 class and Mike Goss did the same in the 26+B Class. Justin Kirchhoff was victorious in the 16-21 C Class and Gary Stallard won the 22-29 C Class. Mike Muskopf has really turned up the dial since switching over to the Honda and he built up even more momentum with another victory in the 30+ C Class. Ryan Edmondson won our First Year Racer class and Garret Mercer finished out front in the Sport class. “B-Rad” Brad Morrison has a flashy new Raptor 250 and he proved it is “Show’n Go” for this toy as he won the Sport-Lite class. Polaris should be proud of Steve Zapfe as he won the very competitive 30+ Vet class and David Robinson won the 40+ Senior Class. Josh Brewer took his WKC Powersports Utility to front of the pack and won his class along with Chris Sigman in the Utility Unlimited Class.
The entire staff of IXCR would like to thank the Demaree family for opening up their property to us along with the Cross Plains Community.

185 Quads showed up to do battle in the almost perfect conditions

There was no question that Todd Demaree was taking the holeshot in the Pro Class

Once again Jim "Trailboss" Cobb treated racers to some fun areas

Next round will be held in Bedford, IN on all virgin trails again but look for it to tighten up next round. As the trees will get closer and the point battles will do the same!
Until next time, Stay between the trees!

GNCC Round 3
3-29-2008
“Steele Creek”
Morganton, NC
Up a hill then down a hill, then up another hill then down another hill. That was course description for the race in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We were blessed with sunny skies and temps soaring in the 80’s on Friday while we walked the course and inspected what we had to work with. However the tables turned sometime in the night and rain came and it continued thru the day on Saturday for all three races. With fuel prices sky rocketing even for diesel I expected the turn of Indiana people to drop a little however it did just the opposite. We were represented very well as a state and had several fellow racers in the top ten in their class. Our Youth riders were all over the 90 Limited class 8-11 with Lee Smith and Cole Setser taking 2nd and 3rd with Dylan Taylor rounding out the class in 10th in the 12-15 class. In the 90 Mod 8-11 class Logan Merriman was 5th and is looking for a championship this year! Charlie & Sadie Weltch were representing well taking 4th & 9th in the 6-11 70 CVT Class.
For the AM race we had 13 people in the top 10 from Indiana and several others who had some issues with the mud and hills in the South East. Todd Scott made his first showing at the nationals and did it in style taking the win the in 24+C Class with Matt Schmitt taking second. Tyler Bostock thought Todd was on to something so he won the First Year Racer class 16-24 with Chad Trisier as the runner up. David Burton showed 2nd place in Georgia was no fluke as he came out and pulled another 2nd place finish here with Eric Hamblen taking 6th in the 20+C Class. Michael Marley had the win wrapped up till he a tree jumped in front of him and dropped him back to a 3rd place finish with Zach Humprey in 7th for the 16-19 C Class. Austin Johnson was 5th in the Schoolboy class and Wayne Remick was 6th in the Super Senior’s. Andrew Langston muscled his Ute to a 7th place finish in the 4X4 Limited class. Michael Schooley was 10th in the 30+C. Our very own John “Luppy” Lupinsky had a great ride taking 7th place in the 36 + C Class. NICE JOB JOHN, THE HARD WORK IS STARTING TO PAY OFF!!!!!
The PM guys went to the line knowing they were up against a very rough course as it had taken its toll on several of the morning class riders. Josh Ribley was 8th in the Pro Am class and is making that KTM move out in the woods. For the College A class they could just change that to the Indiana Boys class as we have several there. Nathan Wallpe and Parker Jones were the front runners on the day with Jonathan Fugate taking 10th. Andy Klingworth showed he’s looking to be the King of the Junior A Class by taking a 2nd place finish. Tyler Moore had a strong showing in the Junior B class with an 8th place finish and Jon Chambers was 5th in the Vet B class. In the Sr B 40+ class Team IXCR members Sandy Ruth and Ric Phillips were 2nd & 4th and both had great races. NICE JOB GUYS.
The Nationals take a week off and then head back down to Union, South Carolina for a run at the Big Buck which is one of my favorite tracks. And don’t forget that IXCR will be back the following weekend at Lawrence County holding round 2.
Tighten those bolts and get in some seat time as the heart of the racing season is upon us. Get a toe up on the competition and put down the doughnuts and pick up the dumb bells. Step away from the TV and step towards the trails that have been neglected all winter long. It’s racing season people, get out there and enjoy it!!!!!
Until next time, stay between the trees!

Fatheadz.com the Official eyewear of Indiana XC Racing and Team IXCR

Indiana XC Racing is proud to announce that Fatheadz.com will be the official eyewear company for both Indiana XC Racing and Team IXCR for the 2008 season. Fatheadz.com is a highly respected name in eyewear and is heavily involved with other motorsports including Nascar, Toyota Motorsports and various Lucas Oil racing series. Fatheadz.com commonly known for there eyewear and sunglasses made for man or woman with a “bigger” head also produces there products in normal size eyewear.

Fatheadz PPC Technology utilizes the benefits of "Injected-Polarization". The polarized lenses are designed using proprietary multi-layered polarized film and patented processing technology to deliver unsurpassed distortion free, enhanced vision while maintaining maximum polarized glare reduction. The polarized polycarbonate lenses are manufactured as a "one piece" polarized lens. That is, the polarized film is incorporated into the lens during the injection process. As opposed to the "bent sheet" laminated process used by many sunglass lens manufacturers. An injected polarized lens is a perfect solution from the optical point of view because its surfaces are parallel and the optical ray is not distorted in any way. The result is clearer optics throughout the entire viewing area. The polarized lenses also include one of the industries strongest hard coatings, increasing their durability and scratch resistance.
The lenses block up 99.9% of polarized light and absorb 100% of all UV sunlight.
“Almost everyone at the track wears sunglasses at sometime or another. We are very happy to have a great company like Fatheadz involved with our series and team. It’s great to get more companies involved like them with the sport we all love.” Says Jeff Rowland - Media Director for IXCR.
GNCC Round 2 - The General - Garon Davis race report
GNCC Round 2
3-8-2008
“The General”
Washington, Ga
As IXCR takes a month off, many of the racers headed south for warmer weather to race The General in Washington, Ga. However, the weather down south was not what we had anticipated! My crew of Harold & Jake Stonebraker, Sandy Ruth, Chuck Welch and myself hit rain early Friday morning just north of Atlanta and it was still raining at the track at noon. The temps were about the same as home, so that was a little disappointing but when you’re at the track you seem to get over things like that. The Georgia track is filled with tree roots and water crossings on fairly flat ground. The track this year was very open and very fast for the majority of the race. I like to mention as many people as possible so I’ll try and make mention of as many IXCR peeps as I can. Due to the amount of us that follow the GNCC’s I’ll only mention that make the top ten in their class. So if you don’t get mentioned I either missed you or you need to go faster!!!!
The youth racers are up first and it was chilly on the line but the smiles were huge and you could see they were ready to go play in the mud. Matthew Harris came out in 4th place in the Super Mini 13-15 class. Logan Merriman was making dad proud when he took the win in the 90 Modified 8-11 class. Charlie Weltch took his cross bones all the way up to second place and beat out little sis Sadie who finished 5th.
For the morning class there are several Indiana boys who go out to do battle. Moto-Xperts was represented in the Peach state with Dave Burton and Tyler Sederlund taking 2nd and 3rd in the 20+ C Class. And the S.I.C.C. boys also did work with Jonathan Benham taking 7th in the 20+C and Michael Marley was the runner up in the 16-19 C Class. In the 24+ C Class Matt Williams grabbed the holeshot (I was right next to him!!!!) and finished 3rd on the day while Travis Nicholson was 8th and I was 10th. In the old man class (36+ C) Dean Bradshaw edged out John Lupinsky with 9th and 10th place finishes. In the First Year Racer Class Jake Humphrey put his ride out front and won the class. Mike Ockerman was the runner up in the Super Senior class and seems to have adapted well to his new Yamaha! The morning racers had to deal with a lot of mud and people were getting stuck left and right. But several people came thru with great rides in the A.M. race.
Now to the big boys, the afternoon race is super competitive and a blast to watch. Ryan Lane was the top IXCR guy taking 5th place in the pro class. Parker Jones is a man on a mission this year and was just edged out in the College A class and will have to deal with second for round #2. Justin Finley and Jonthan Fugate also compete in the college A class and respectfully took 6th and 8th place slots. Rocket Ron Elmore decided he wanted to try his luck in the Junior A Class in the afternoon and took an impressive 9th place finish but he couldn’t edge out Andy Klingworth who was 3rd in that class. In the Senior B class Mr Sandy Ruth was 6th and he is ready to get busy with it next race! Fred Marley was feeling under the weather in Florida, but he came back with vengeance for this race and took a solid 3rd place finish with Tyler Moore taking the numbero 5 position.
This was a great race to watch and I think everyone had a great time. Half the fun of the nationals is the road trip there and back. I laughed until I cried several times and even pulled a Chinese fire drill somewhere north of Atlanta. If you see Dean or Chris Bradshaw ask them about the moons on I-75, I guess they were really bright white. The GNCC’s will pick back up in a couple more weeks in North Carolina for Round three Steele Creek. I was not able to stay for the bike race to see how some of the Indiana boys faired but if anyone would like to do a report on the bike GNCC’s we would love to hear from you.
Until next time, Stay between the trees!

Round 1 Race Report - Garon Davis Racer Representative
2/24/2008
Round #1
Badlands Off-road Park

Welcome back boy and girls!!!! It’s been a long time since we all met up in the parking lot to talk some smack to our buddies about how fast you think you are. And February 24th marked the first round of the Indiana Cross Country racing series. We knew weather would be up in the air for this race but wanted to give everyone the chance to get ready for the upcoming season. As expected it got cold the week of the race and made us wonder if we had made the right decision or not. But the racers didn’t let us down! Apparently the quad guys had a serious case of cabin fever as we had over 180 entries for the four wheeled freaks! In the two wheeled world we had just over thirty who decided to brave the 7.5 mile ice and snow covered course.
The long straight start gave way to Florida styled whoops before you had a left hand turn into the woods. Before to long you were running all out down an old set of rail road tracks and over the log jump. Then it opened up for awhile and crossed a small creek. The course then jumped over into the jeep park and that is where the real fun began! I got a call on the radio from Cobb and he said “Garon, I don’t know where you are at, but get back here to the jeep park, I need help fast!” My first reaction was someone had been hurt, however I was relieved and in disbelief to find about 20 bikes trying to make it up a small hill that had turned to a sheet of ice over night. Cobb, Ric, and I spent the remainder of the race at this hill climb trying to get the bikers up and around this obstacle that was nearly impassable on a two wheeled machine. I was able to have a nice little chat with just about every biker out there at this point. I don’t think anyone made it thru without dumping it at least once in this area. Even in the nasty conditions everyone seemed to be having a good time. Josh Robison seemed to be having a great time as he finished up front overall for the day and in the Pro class aboard his Yamaha with Austin Shroyer on his Yellow Suzuki right behind him. Third overall went to the B-Lites rider aboard his KTM Jesse Ford. Pollard Electric Inc. rider Joey Stanley took his Yamaha to a 4th overall spot for the day and a “W” in the Vet 30+A class. You may have noticed a bright green Kawasaki on the line sporting the IXCR #1 Plate! That was none other than the 2007 overall bike champion Jeff Mote. He took the win in the A Class and look for his interview coming up in the news letter. Zach Malone was the man to beat in the A-Lites class along with Matt Price in the B-Class. First Year Racer C class riders had to be asking them self’s what they were thinking to racing in conditions like these but it seemed to fit Dylan Borkowski just fine as he finished up front. The older guys got in on the action too as Chris Grossen grabbed a W in the Vet 30+ B class and along with Sr Bike 40+B Rider Jason Fritz. I have to hand it everyone who gave it a go on this course in these conditions. We can’t control the weather but we hope it will be a little more fun for you guys next round!

On to the quad guys where we had a largest showing ever! Donald Ockerman showed moving over to a GT Thunder backed Yamaha is the way to go for him as he took the overall win and the Pro class Victory. Parker Jones was Second on the day and showed he is ready for the upcoming GNCC season. Josh Beavers rounds out the podium for the quads. The leaders on the day all did seven laps at a blistering pace as this was a fairly open course where you could really open your machine up. And Michael Coker of Ill. Showed he wasn’t afraid to hang it out as he took the A Class win. With a name like Ty Ramsey you better be fast and he showed the 16-25 B Class the he means business this year. Last fall a new quad was introduced to the industry from a company called KTM! They are no stranger to the off-road world and Chad Cockrell and Rocket Ron Elmore showed the quads are race ready as they took the wins in both the 26+ B Class and Vet 30+ classes. Justin Kirchhoff took his Honda to the front in the 16-21 C Class along with Matt Williams in the 22-29 C Class. Mike Muskopf won the 30+C Class and I have to get a shout out to someone else in this class. We get all kinds of requests to have this or that at different tracks and we try to take the racers desires and put them in the tracks somehow. Well, I was down at Dreyer Honda South (the presenting sponsor of the IXCR Series) back in early February and someone said let’s have a really fast track where you can just really go. Well, we took that and ran with it on this course so I thought Bill Westrick would be a happy camper as this was his request. As it turns out Bill had motor problems on his 450 and decided he couldn’t just sit at home for round one so he loaded up his wife’s 250ex and came out and raced. He seemed to be having a great time even though he didn’t have the power to motor past his competitors. In the First year racer class Jake Humpery won along with Jason Vanpatten and Austin Johnson in the sport and sport-lites classes. BT100 Barry Taylor showed all the young punks that the old man still has it in the SR 40+ Class aboard the Suzuki. Jay Dee Parker was the victor in the Utility class and Chris Sigman won the Utility Unlimited class. We hope everyone had a great time and look forward to seeing you at round two on April 20th where we will be at the Lawrence County Off Road Park.

Until next time, stay between the trees!

The inaugural 2007 Indiana XC Racing officially came to an end with the year end banquet this weekend. Around 160 racers and spouses were on hand to receive various awards and prizes.

National Guard sponsored GNCC pro William Yokley was in attendance to show his support for the series. William also spoke to the crowd about racing, sponsors and his thoughts on the series. After a brief introduction of the IXCR staff the door prizes and awards started to be handed out. Youth riders were up first with two standout racers, Matthew Harris and Derrik Allen taking top honors in their classes along with receiving “rising star” awards. Bike awards were up next with Vet bike class racer Jeff Mote taking the overall #1 plate just head of Bruce Stapleton and Austin Witt. Racers Choice awards were voted on by racers in attendance and went to Todd Demaree for quads and Derrik Allen for bikes. With quads having the most in attendance the awards took a little longer to present. Standouts were Todd Demaree winning the tight Pro class battle along with edging out Nate Beyers for the overall. Bruce Marshall’s consistent finishes put him at top of the Vet class and 3rd overall. Jeff Seelig collected his awards for winning the “C” 16-25 class with an impressive showing by winning all 6 rounds he entered with Chris Bradshaw clawing his way into 2nd place.

THE FINAL SHOWDOWN - LAWRENCE COUNTY
ROUND 9
That’s if folks, round nine is in the books and the season is over. It’s been a fun filled year and lots of new friends have been made and plans are already in the works for next year! We will be AMA sanctioned next year along with one of our rounds being at the Ironman GNCC! This is big news and lot’s more in store!
Now for the race news! We were once again greeted with sunny skies and great race weather. While we are normally dealing with mud and cooler temperatures in October, we were instead racing in the 90’s with a lot of sun and dust.
For the bike race they hit the track winding thru the grass field and around the pond and into the woods where they were greeted by a brutal 8 ½ mile course. One of the new features at this race was a rock jump which several of the bikers challenged and looked to be having a great time as they launched off the rock and down in the freshly cut trails. Marty Michels came up from Kentucky to run and won the pro class along with the overall. He is currently ranked 2nd in the GNCC series in the Open A class and we wish him the best of luck for the last two rounds! My boy “Dirty Joe” Stanley won the Vet class and took second overall. He bought that bike on Wednesday so I’d say he got the feel of it fairly quick. We had one of our favorite riders back again, Derrik Allen, and this young man was on the move. Starting from the last row and still finishing up front in his class and 6th overall! Nathan Weber came in 2nd in the 85CC class and rode like a champ. In the Big Bike class Chris Grossen took the win followed by Jerrod Adams and Travis Stafford. Eric Hampton made the drive up from Brookville and showed the small bike class how it’s done. Austin “Slip’n Slide” Witt was the runner up with Justin Brinn rounding out the top three for the small bikes. Matt Yeiter won our 40+ class and showed a lot of the young guns how to get’r done as he won his class and finished 5th overall.
With this being the final race for the season there were a lot of close point battles that came down to this race. And the pro class was no exception. And Indiana’s only PRO GNCC racer Todd Demaree took the win and wrapped up the championship. We had a few new faces on Pro row including that of Brandon Carter. He has raced in several dessert races and XC snow mobile races and this was his first time back on a quad in quite awhile (not to mention a borrowed quad at that). Brandon took second in our pro class and he’s a super nice guy! Ramsey Ellis took the final podium spot for the pro class. In the A class a familiar face took win in Craig Bowman with Justin Lewicki as the runner up. For the B class Jonathen Fugate again put his Honda on top and finished 2nd overall. Jesse Lowe has put in some solid runs in the nationals and continued this with a 2nd place finish in the B Class. Our Vet class always has some close battles but Brent Marshall rode like a man on a mission and took the win with Dan Bradford and Lance Nunn coming in behind him. Justin Kirchhoff took 13th overall on the day and won the First year racer class and he will be a force next year to look out for! Benham came in 2nd in the first year racer class. The 16-25 C Class championship was wrapped up before this race but you couldn’t tell by the way these guys rode. Ty Ramsey took the win over Todd Scott with Chris Bradshaw in third. I finished up my IXCR season with a win in the 26+ C Class with my season rival Dean Bradshaw as the runner up. Team S.I.C.C.’s Robert Brancamp took third.
That’s all I’ve got for this year but I will continue to do race reports on the last two nationals of the year and will do a year end review once we have the overall number for the bikes and quads. I hope to see everyone at the Ironman GNCC in a couple weeks on Oct. 27th and we look forward to the 2008 Season. There are a lot of big things in the works for next year and we hope you bring all your friends to join us. Please continue to visit the web site (www.ixcr.com) for future updates and new information. Until next time be safe and keep the rubber side down!

9/13/2007 No youth race at Round 9 - IXCR sponsorship and race team
Due to a conflict with insurance for the event, we will NOT be able to have youth racing at our Oct 7th race. We will be using a different insurance carrier in 2008, so we hope to see all our youth racers return in 2008 season. We strongly feel that youth are an important part of the future of the sport, so this is very disappointing that we can’t hold youth racing race on Oct. 7th. We would like to congratulate this youth racers on there final standings in the series. Best 2 races count.
